Without completely isolating WASM from MSFS code (and thereby making WASM useless), the claim can never be made that third party add-ons can’t crash the sim. MSFS bugs related to SimConnect currently allow WASM add-ons to crash the sim. While this does reduce the possibilities for malicious code running in MSFS I’m extremely skeptical that WASM for security is anything other than a solution looking for a problem–especially when one starts to consider whether flight simmers are even a likely target.Īnother argument for WASM is that the nature of the beast prevents third party add-ons from crashing MSFS due to bugs in add-on code. WASM is a closed sandbox and Microsoft Flight Simulator only imports a small number of APIs into the runtime.
